Brookdale Community College Journalism Podcast #1: Changing World of American Journalism, 11/30/06

Brookdale Community College Conflict Resolution Forum Podcast #1: The World of Islam, 4/20/2006

In this inaugural podcast on behalf of the Brookdale Community College Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution, we hear a lecture on the history and culture of the Arab World, presented as part of the Center's Fourth Annual Conflict Resolution Forum.

This program was recorded April 20, 2006 at the Brookdale Community College campus in Lincroft, Monmouth County, New Jersey.

The featured speaker, Audrey Shabbas, noted author and National Representative of the Middle East Policy Council, is a long-time member of The National Council for the Social Studies. She has served as a presidential appointee to its Equity and Social Justice Committee and as chair of the International Human Rights Education Special Interest Group.

The University of Pennsylvania has honored her work by awarding her their Janet Lee Stevens Award (1992) for contributions to Arab-American understanding. She is the founder and director of the non-profit organization, AWAIR: Arab World and Islamic Resources, Berkley, California.

Ms. Shabbas has over 22 years of experience in teaching, curriculum development and teacher training about the Middle East and Islam. Her curriculum works include: The Arab World Studies Notebook, The Arab World Notebook: For the Secondary School Level, The Arabs: Activities for the Elementary and Middle School and A Medieval Banquet in the Alhambra Palace.Ms. Shabbas is listed in Who's Who in American Education, The World's Who's Who of Women and the Dictionary of International Biography.






Participating were (from left): Dr. Robert Abel, director, international programs at the Davidson Laboratory, Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, a member of the Forum's planning committee; Audrey Shabbas, national representative of the Middle East Policy Council and the featured lecturer at the Forum; Sherri West, professor of World History at Brookdale; and Paul Zigo, director of the Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution.
